My current camera of choice is a digital Sony Cybershot. I love color
and so I rarely take black and white photos. I am currently focusing on
nature and wildlife photos, as well as extreme close-ups (macro shots).
Photography has been an interest of mine for most of my life but I
didn't start taking pictures myself until around 2003. I try and find
the unusual in the everyday things.
My alter ego is a doctoral student at the University of North
Carolina-Greensboro in Sport Psychology. I am a certified athletic
trainer with degrees in Kinesiology and Exercise Physiology. I have a
neurotic dachshund named Zack Morris, and am addicted to college
football, Law and Order re-runs and Iron Chef America. I have an
unhealthy obsession with commercials (particularly Sonic Drive-In and
SportsCenter) and I am incapacitated by baby animals. My mother says I
am, in her words, "a handful."

My interest in
photography stems from an early introduction in a 7th grade workshop,
though I didn't
start getting serious about it until 2004 when I purchased my first
camera a Nikon FM2N. It was all down hill from there.
I quickly
discovered a love for black and white photography and manual film
cameras. Included in my arsenal are a Hasselblad 500C,
Rolleiflex
2.8D, Nikon FM2N, a few Holgas
(a
toy camera), as well as Polga (or Polaroid Holga, also known as a
Holgaroid) . I have built a traditional
wet
darkroom in my closet where I produce traditional silver prints.
I
also have a digital darkroom where I can produce archival prints using
my Epson Stylus Photo R2400 printer and Espons Ultra Chrome Inks.
The
current themes I have been exploring are urban and rural decay, Street
Life, and
fine
art nudes. Lately I have been focusing on using Infrared film
in my figurework work
because of how it depicts the body in an almost ethereal context.
I
have also been gravitating more and more to my Holga for my study of
urban and rural entropy and street life. The soft focus and
vignetting are a
perfect
match for these themes. Not to mention there is something
extremely
satisfying about producing a beautiful photograph with a $20 plastic
camera.
In the real world I am an Aerospace Engineer working
for the Navy. I have a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering and a
M.S. in
Engineering Science and Mechanics from Virginia Tech. I have
a 10 year
old Chocolate Lab named Tucker and a 4 year old rescued tabby named
Max. For better or worse, I love
USA soccer and VT football.
